Under the slogan: "Never too soon, never too late" on Wednesday, November 21, from 9:00 to 1:00, a tent was set up at Fabina Square, in the corner of July 18th and Rio Negro, where pulmonologists and licensed neuro-cardiologists will perform pulmonary spirometry for smokers and former smokers over the age of 40 to diagnose their respiratory health.
Studies will measure lung capacity and provide information for prevention and treatment.
Dr. Maria Victorina Lopez, who will lead the activity with dr. Cecilia Rodriguez, emphasized the importance of the early diagnosis of this pathology and stressed the need to explain in detail the characteristics of each patient, as they exponentially influence the analyzed results.
"People who start treatment in the early years achieve a better development of their lung capacity. The treatments that must be followed are a combination of healthier life, no tobacco and specific drugs that help relax the smooth bronchial muscles and reduce obstruction," he said.
On the other hand, the Maciela Pediatric Department, conducted a survey among patients with a view to recording risk factors for HOBP.
According to the obtained result, it is assessed whether there is a suspicion of the disease and an appropriate spirometry is indicated.
The same activity will develop next week with patients from the Spanish hospital.
In addition, this Tuesday, November 20, starting at 10:30 am, Professor Pablo Curbelo et al. Cecilia Rodriguez will offer exhibitions for students of medicine, doctors and healthcare staff at the amphitheater of the president within the hospital center.
Dr Monica Kierszenbaum, a member of the chair, stressed the negative impact of smoking as a reason for the development of this disease.
"Smoking is the major risk factor for COPD. Not all smokers developed COPD, but if more than 90% of patients with COPD are smokers," he said.
