On Saturday, the capitals of Vienna lost third place in the ICE Hockey League. The Viennese had to admit defeat to the Innsbrucker Haien by 4-5 after overtime. This means that only Fehervar and KAC can buy the play-off ticket early on Sunday, as the leaders of the HCB Südtirol table have already been confirmed as quarter-finalists.
It was a duel between two clubs with completely different philosophies. While the Chiefs played with only four legionaries but with 15 Viennese, the Innsbruckers opted for twelve legionaries. The international team seemed to have the game under control and took a 3-0 lead in the 21st minute.
But, like the day before against Dornbirn, when the Viennese scored a two-goal deficit in the final two minutes of the match, the Chiefs started a successful run to recover. Marco Richter (27th), Armin Preiser with his first league goal (30th) and Tylor Vause (36th / PP) secured the tie. Ali Wukovits replaced the renewed leadership of Max Gerlach (44th) in the power play (55th), but in overtime Braden Christoffer fired his team to get their first win against the Chiefs since November 25, 2018.
