Master Abdur Rahman of Shahjalal, a ferry traveling on the Banglabazar route from Shimulia-Madaripur to Munshiganj, has been suspended for hitting a pillar of the Padma Bridge. The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) said on Friday afternoon that Abdur Rahman, the master of the ferry, had been suspended for not working properly.
BIWTC AGA Shafiqul Islam said that on the way from Banglabazar to Shimulia, Shahjalal was hit by a ferry with pole number 16 from Padma Bridge. It has a large hole in the front of the ferry. The 33 vehicles on the shuttle collided with each other. Many of the nearly 2,000 passengers on the ferry fell on the ferry. At least 20 of them were injured. The canteen inside the ferry has been destroyed.
Shahjalal crashed into a pole of the Padma Bridge near Mawa in Munshiganj around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
