In statements to the press, Mr. Doukkali noted that the emergence of seasonal influenza A (H1N1) virus cases in the Kingdom is still a normal occurrence, especially as the national surveillance system and epidemiological surveillance records annually, as in other countries, cases of contamination for this virus during the winter season.
In Morocco, sentinel surveillance of the Ministry of Health consists of the epidemiological surveillance of influenza-related illnesses in the public sector, established as of the 2004-2005 season, which consists of a network of 375 health centers. public sector
In the same way, he indicated that his department is willing to strengthen the clinical and virological surveillance of diseases related to influenza and serious acute respiratory infections, which are currently being deployed in eight health centers and public hospitals (Rabat, Fez, Marrakech , Meknes). , Beni Mellal, Oujda and Agadir).
The analysis of the epidemiological data of the flu syndromes shows a beginning of the seasonal epidemic a little late around the 17th and 23rd of December 2018 and reached a maximum of 39; epidemic between January 7 and 13, 2019, indicated that Influenza affects, as usual, all age groups in Morocco, with a slight predominance in the adult subject.
The analysis of clinical and virological data on influenza and serious acute respiratory infections in Morocco shows a similar situation to the world, he said, adding that of the 541 samples received at the National Institute of Hygiene until January 20, 2019, virological research confirmed 100 influenza viruses, with predominance of type A viruses compared to type B virus.
In this context, Mr. Doukkali recommended that citizens be vaccinated against the virus, especially people with chronic illnesses, pregnant women and children between 6 months and 5 years, as well as people over 65 years of age. years and people with specific chronic diseases.
