The name of the film was revealed during an event in Chicago. Director Jay Abrams said that the movie's action was developing some time after events in Episode VIII "The Last Jedi."
The trailer features familiar faces of the last trilogy that began with Episode VII: Power Awake, as well as some of the favorite characters from the original series of George Lucas. In addition, Princess Leia, played by late Carrie Fisher by the end of 2016, used archival images not used with her from Episode VII.
One of the surprises of the trailer is the brief appearance of Emperor Palpatine, one of the main villains of the so-called "New Trilogy" by George Lucas.
The international premiere of episode IX is December 20.
