Volkswagen is planning to buy cheap electric cars

Their production will keep jobs in the country

The market for electric vehicles will become more and more interesting. German giant Volkswagen (VV) plans to compete with Tesla with cheap electric cars that will be manufactured in Germany to retain jobs in the country.

Three Volkswagens plants will be re-oriented to produce electric cars up to 20,000 euros, Reuters reports, citing sources familiar with the company's plans. The news has not been officially confirmed by the German manufacturer.

VV and other car manufacturers are trying to adapt to the stringent rules introduced by falsifying diesel engine tests for harmful substances in their emissions. VV CEO, Herbert Dice, recently warned that the production of German cars will disappear.

Following the UN's call for a decisive action to slow down global warming, EU lawmakers agreed to cut car emissions by 35% by 2030. According to Dice, in order to achieve this goal, VV must increase the share of electric cars with a total sales volume of up to 30%.

VV plans related to the launch of MEB entries and I.D. Aero will be discussing at a meeting of the company's Supervisory Board later this month. For now, the car manufacturer has no official comments on what has appeared in the media.
