226 new cases of coronavirus, 2 additional deaths reported in Simcoe Muskoka – Barrie



The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 226 new cases of coronavirus and two additional deaths since Friday, bringing the local number of cases to 4,309, including 73 deaths.

There have also been a total of more than 7,900 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine administered in the region, mainly to health workers at local hospitals, long-term care and nursing homes. This includes more than 2,400 doses that were administered between Friday and Sunday.

Of the new COVID-19 cases, 68 are in Barrie, while 44 in Bradford, 25 in New Tecumseth, 15 in Wasaga Beach, 11 in Innisfil and 11 in Collingwood.

The remaining new cases are in the municipalities of Adjala-Tosorontio, Clearview, Essa, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Midland, Orillia, Oro-Medonte, Penetanguishene, Severn, Springwater, Tay and Tiny.

Thirty-eight of the new cases are the result of institutional outbreaks, while 30 are the result of close contact with another positive case of COVID-19. Ten of the new cases are acquired by the community, while three are related to the outbreak congregation and one is connected to an outbreak in the workplace.

The remaining new cases of COVID-19 are still under investigation.

Of the total of 4,309 COVID-19 cases in the region, 68%, or 2,942, have been recovered, while 35 people are hospitalized

  • Royal Health Regional Health Center (Integrated Rehabilitation and Stoke Unit)
  • Waypoint Center for Mental Health Care (Awenda units A and B)
  • Trillium Manor in Orillia
  • Revera Sara Vista in Elmvale
  • Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene
  • Simcoe Manor in Beeton
  • Grove Park Home in Barrie
  • The Pines Long-Term Care Residence in Bracebridge
  • Roberta Place in Barrie
  • Retirement by the lake in Innisfil
  • Woods Park Care Center in Barrie
  • Villa Retirement Lodge in Midland
  • Wasaga Beach Child Care Center

On Monday, Ontario reported 3,338 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the provincial total to 219,120, including 5,012 deaths.
