Europeans contemplate the lunar mission in 2025

Updated

PARIS (AP) – ArianeGroup wants to send a scientific mission to the moon before 2025.

Almost 50 years after Neil Armstrong walked the Earth satellite, the Paris company said on Monday it has signed a one-year contract with the European space agency to study the possibility to prepare a mission, with the goal of undermining the regolito.

The company says that "the regolith is a mineral from which it is possible to extract water and oxygen, thus allowing an independent human presence to the Moon, capable of producing the necessary fuel for more far-sighted exploratory missions."

ArianeGroup says the mission would not imply sending men to the moon.
