The science of acne and how to control it


Acne, commonly known as acne vulgaris, affects about 80 percent of people aged 11 to 30 years old, so it is often a skin condition. Even if you are older, you may still experience acne, as 12% of people continue to get into their lives.

Acne is the result of obstructed sebaceous follicles. The sebaceous glands are adjacent to hair follicles and produce oil or sebum that keeps the hair and skin lubricated, moisturized and protected.

When the sebaceous glands become obstructed by dead skin cells and excess sebum, a plug or comedone is formed. Open comedones are commonly referred to as "black heads" because they are exposed to air and become black in color; Indoor comedones are called "white heads".

The presence of a comedone is a sign of acne. If the comedones become infected, the brain containing the manure results.

Some people are more at risk of acne. About 80 percent of the time, acne has a family tendency. Therefore, there may be a genetic factor or, alternatively, the causes of common family habits such as diet can be. Hormones are involved, and male and female hormones can affect the sebaceous glands.

Oily creams and fats, such as oily cosmetics, can aggravate acne if an additional "fat" increases follicle obstruction.

It is not clear whether food plays a role. It seems that some people are aggravating acne when they eat fatty food, while other people are not affected, regardless of how much they consume dietary fats. The theory is that some dietary fats increase the production of sebum, but it is unclear exactly which foods are offenders.

Cleaning the skin at least twice a day with mild soap or without sophisticated cleaning is ideal for maintaining clean skin. Cleaning often or with an antiseptic cleanser only irritates the skin, so not only do you have acne, but also damaged skin.

You can clean the comedones by purifying the warm water and gently by expressing the comedones. However, this can be difficult and can lead to irritated skin.

The most common treatments are benzoyl peroxide creams, lotions and gels that are used daily or twice a day. Although lower concentrations do not require a prescription, they are higher. It should also be noted that since benzoyl peroxide type peroxide, it can dilute items from the pillow and clothing that comes into contact with it.

Ecopolants are found in some products, for example salicylic acid. The proactive product line also contains benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid; its effectiveness lies in its use as a complete system, or cleaning together with treatment.

Prescription treatments include both local and oral antibiotics. Tetracyclines, minocyclines, and doxycycline capsules are prescribed for severe acne, although it is suggested that the treatment be limited to prevent antibiotic resistance. Erythromycin and clindamycin creams and lotions are available, but it is recommended that the product combines the antibiotic with benzoyl peroxide to reduce the risk of bacterial resistance.

Topical tretinoin and oral isotretinoin are ekfolants and highly active "peelers". They are able to successfully remove chests, reduce inflammation and clean acne, but both topical and oral formulations are contraindicated in pregnancy. Contraception is recommended for both men and women if they take oral isotretinoin. Another complication of this group of drugs is their ability to increase sun's sensitivity and the risk of burns from the sun.

Acne is usually self-limiting. However, if you are affected, the condition of the skin can have a high social and emotional impact.
