Twitch replaced Metallica’s BlizzCon concert with fun non-heavy metal music

While Metallica fans received a special performance from the band at the end of the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2021, those watching the official Twitch Gaming channel received the concert with the most non-heavy metal music that could be imagine to avoid a DMCA Shortly after Metallica began playing, Twitch switched to copyright-free music to prevent a removal of the DMCA, which predictably sparked some fun moments captured by those like @Slasher on Twitter.

It appears that Twitch did not obtain the appropriate rights to allow music to be played on its channel. Fortunately, the concert and its music played as expected on other Twitch channels, such as Blizzard itself and BlizzCon’s official streaming on YouTube.

DMCA removals have been a huge problem for Twitch streamers recently, and Twitch even admitted that it has mismanaged this situation and promised that there are better tools on the way.

In addition to this fun time, BlizzCon 2021 has already provided great news and revelations, including Diablo 2 Resurrected, Diablo 4’s Rogue class, 55 new Overwatch 2 details and more.As of this writing, BlizzCon Day 2 is already underway and you can find out all the best announcements from our BlizzCon 2021 summary.
