New diagnosed diabetes and weight loss without cause can signal pancreatic cancer. Every year, the disease is detected in about two thousand patients in the Czech Republic. 95 percent of patients die of cancer, so they need to be detected in time, inviting doctors to treat them. They want to hire diabetics and doctors of general medicine, they said at a press conference. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of death in the tumor. Considering that even better progress is being made in the third one, according to experts, by 2020, another is the most common cause of lung cancer.
The cause of the disease has not yet been fully explained. According to research, it can contribute to smoking, genetic factors, obesity, poor nutrition and other diseases such as pancreatitis, liver cirrhosis or diabetes.
In 50-60 percent of patients, the diagnosis was advanced at an advanced stage by the Oncology Clinic of the First Medical School of the University of Charles and the General University Hospital in Prague (1st Medical School and VFN) Luboš Petruselka. The average survival time of these patients is less than a year. "An emergency clinic is to find a methodology for early diagnosis of the disease, and it is necessary to improve the speed of diagnosis, initiate treatment and develop new, more effective drugs," he added.
If the tumor is detected in time, it is possible to treat the patient completely. Most surgical removal of the part or all of the pancreas is most effective. It is possible to have eight to 17 percent of them. "It is possible to act only if the tumor is not locally advanced, ie in the first phase." In a more advanced phase, only a limited number of patients responding to oncological treatment – chemotherapy or hemoradiotherapy, "explained Zdenek Krška, head of the 1st Clinic of Abdominal Chest Surgery, a random operation of the 1st Medical School and the General Hospital.
The first symptoms include abdominal pain, dermatitis, or nausea. One of the late can be yellowing as well as in the jaundice, because the liver is affected. From the beginning of the first tumor cell to the first symptoms, according to Krška it is 14 to 16 years old. "Carcinoma is manifested between 24 and 36 months after diabetes," he added.
