Violence against women is considered a problem by 71 percent of Czechs. This is the result of a recent study by Focus for Amnesty International CR. The vast majority of respondents, 84 percent, believe that more attention should be paid to prevention than ever. However, these clear data do not mean that a document that is comprehensive in relation to the suppression of violence against women, the prevention and assistance of victims, the so- Istanbul Convention, set in roses in the country.
There were two requests in the Council that were in direct contradiction. There were 10,556 people who signed the ratification of the Convention, 12,662 citizens voted the opposite. Representatives of both camps met yesterday at one of the most unpopular public hearings in the petition committee. The passage of the Convention, which speaks of the need to combat violence against women, but the paragraphs that contain the concept of gender, is not emotion.
"This is a colleague," said Radka Mak, Speaker of the House of Objections, "although the text of the contract clearly states that violence should be punished, regardless of the perpetrator." Article 14 of the Convention states that children should be guided by gender equality, gender roles without stereotypes, mutual respect and non-violent conflict resolution in interpersonal relations.
The discourse about the convention was opened by priest Petr Pita, who in his recent sermon condemned the text. "Your families will be separated, it will be enough for children to say that a man and a woman are not the same." For any disagreement, you will be deported to educational work camps of an extinct character. Homosexuals will be declared superior to the ruling class, "Pithha said. According to Max, his speech leads some deputies and senators to change their attitudes and actively support the Istanbul Convention.
The ratification of the document should be discussed by deputies and senators early next year. "For IT, this is one of the priorities if we did not support it, it would mean that the IO is indifferent to violence," said Max. The text is supported by CSSD and Pirates, against KDU, partly ODS and SPD. Even DA club is not uniform. Against the convention, for example, Patrik Nacher and Aleš Juchelk are deputies. Both men argue that the denial of the convention does not mean the endorsement of violence. For example, Jupiter is convinced that universal support for victims of domestic violence or other violence can and should take place without undertaking obligations whose influence is not unequivocal.
The current debate is a positive interest in this issue, which brings with it misconceptions about various bribes. According to the Fokus survey, for example, 58 percent of respondents still believe that the victim of the crime is co-responsible for the crime (she was a chicken, she was dressed inadequately, she went without an escort, etc.).
