Brussels: The new electric cars must have a sound system under the EU regulations that will enter into force on Monday. The measure is the result of concerns that the calmness of low-emission cars can pose a danger to pedestrians and cyclists, according to the BBC.
All new models of electric vehicles will now incorporate a conventional emitting device. As of 2021, all other electric vehicles must have an acoustic warning system.
The device must be active when the electric car invests or moves more slowly than 20 kilometers per hour, since a slow moving vehicle is more likely to be near the pedestrian. However, the driver will have the option to disable the system if it considers this necessary.
