Ethiopia: Ethnic shootings claim 17 lives

(MENAFN) Amhara Mass Media Agency (AMMA) state media said more than 17 people were killed in ethnic shootings in the Ethiopian regional state, Benishangul Gumuz, located in the western part of the country.

AMMA added that the ethnic motifs that took place during the weekend involved members of the local ethnic group Gumuz and the ethnic group Amhara.

AMMA revealed that 11 of the victims were ethnic Amharas, while the other 6 were ethnic Gumus, both parties deploying blunt weapons and modern firearms during the shooting.

Currently, regional and federal security units are sent to distant areas to block the new eruption of the riot.
