Totalcar – Magazine – Solar Prius more efficient built by Toyota

[ad_1]

There are already solar cells in the Hybrid version of the Prius, but the latest experimental vehicle built by Toyota with the help of Sharp knows much more than factories.

The Prius with solar energy, in addition to the roof and the engine compartment, even reached the rear window of the cells. One of the novelties is that it charges in motion, with a maximum of 860 W of power. Although this is not compared to the dozens of kilowatts necessary for progress, it is still almost five times larger than the number of solar panels of the product in series. This is due to the greater efficiency of the surface and the improvement of efficiency: the new cells of Sharp already have 34% efficiency, which is a big improvement compared to 22.5% of the previous cells.

According to the manufacturers, the experimental car can pick up energy for about 44.5 km in one day, while the Prius PHV series is 6.1 km. But it is perhaps even more important that the new system charges the unit's battery while driving, while the serial version will only load the auxiliary battery while in the car, providing the car board systems.

The new type of Solar Prius is being tested in Japan, for now, especially in Tokyo and its surroundings, but it is not known how long it will take to develop a series Prius solar charging system in a similar way.
