Latvia looks better in the international arena in the field of innovative financial technologies: in the near future Latvia residents are expected to make payments for shopping in stores not only with smartphones, but also with the help of Apple Pay, the Latvian banks.
From Wednesday, June 26, a part of Visa card holders in Latvia can pay via a "Apple Pay" non-contact payment, which means that you can pay at the point of sale with a mobile phone and leave the card at home. In other words, instead of a contactless card, it is possible to bring the phone to the payment terminal, so that the desired cake or other product with the device is paid.
Certainly, according to Visa, iPhone owners can use this service initially only with Reverted cards. The company "Delfi" indicated that it is not possible to respond when it plans to cooperate with the banks themselves. Therefore, Delfi examined the largest Latvian banks to find out if and when they plan to introduce this payment technology.
