When the shops open again, long queues of shoppers form in Riga



On the first day, when other stores can be opened outside the big malls, in many places residents formed long queues there, the LETA agency observed.

The LETA agency observed a long queue of more than ten people outside several used clothing stores on Āgenskalns and Aleksandra Čaka and Krišjāņa Barona streets. Social media users have also shared photos with residents who were in long lines of dozens of people in second-hand clothing stores in other parts of Riga and also outside the capital.

Long lines have also been observed in Pepco clothing stores, which are located outside large malls. According to information from the Pepco website, 22 Pepcoes will be open throughout Latvia from Wednesday, but four more will be open from Friday 9 April.

LETA has already reported that from Wednesday all stores located outside the malls with an area of ​​more than 7,000 square meters can be opened, while the shops in the malls, which previously did not have a permit to work, cannot distribute distance goods from Wednesday. This is provided for in the government’s decision of April 1 to resume store operations outside the malls from April 7.

Distribution of merchandise purchased remotely is not yet prohibited at merchandise delivery points in online stores if they are located outside of malls.

Street sales can also be arranged, as well as mall stores with a total sales area of ​​less than 7,000 square meters.

At the same time, only food, hygiene, feed and optical products stores, as well as pharmacies, bookstores and service points will continue to operate in shopping centers with an area of ​​more than 7,000 square meters.
