Due to delays and technical problems, Windows 10 can be upgraded.

Almost a month after the initial release of the release, Microsoft could again download Windows 10 October 2018 – this update was canceled almost immediately after the first distribution attempt, as there was a mistake that some users lost their data.

Usually, functional updates of the Windows operating system are distributed in phases, automatically offering new downloads for specific time periods, which for now will not be an exception. First, the proposal for installing a new version of the system will be provided by two groups of people: those who manually search for updates and those using a special media creation tool for implementing the new system. If these users do not get involved in new errors, Windows 10 will be available to other users in the coming weeks.

It is interesting that Microsoft's first unsuccessful attempt to upgrade the system is estimated to be generally inadequate and the release date of the new release is November 13th. This is important for operating systems "support windows". The support period from the same day began with Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 1809.

Due to the inconvenience that some enthusiastic users have made available to Windows 10 with the updated version, Microsoft will step up the process of software testing and development. There was a data loss error before the official Windows Update user released the update, but for some unknown reason Microsoft did not consider these remarks serious: Microsoft's response was limited to a new feature – testers before the release were given the opportunity to discover each discovered an error marked by its level of importance. For example, an error that results in data loss is undoubtedly more important than some bad-looking or mismatched icons. However, it is still difficult to say that sorting will increase the quality and efficiency of error reporting.

What will change Microsoft?

As for a slightly longer operating period, Microsoft has promised more openness to publishing the process for the development and testing of the Windows 10 operating system, and in the next few months you can expect more information about how the operating system vendors change their attitudes and processes. The quality of Microsoft software is already assessed at several different levels and in several different dimensions. For example, when users began complaining after the release of the operating system update, an "initial quality error" was recorded in terms of the stability and reliability of the new functional update. Discovering this error means that experienced operating system testers did something wrong. On Tuesday, information on improving cyber security and problems related to "long-term quality" were updated – the reliability and efficiency of weekly updates.

Although Microsoft explicitly recognizes the latest update issue, the company officially assesses the operating system's path well. Company executives mainly rely on certain indicators that are used to assess the operating system's satisfaction. The first is the "incident frequency" or the number of complaints received from users after each updated version of the system. Throughout the life span of the Windows XP operating system, this indicator has dropped steadily. That means something Microsoft works well. However, incidents can be wrong. The error in Windows 10 with a large number of users is a cosmetic error that gets more messages from a serious incident – such as data loss – experienced by only a small number of users, although the last type of incident is more important.

Another indicator is a "net promoter score," or an assessment of how users would be willing to recommend each version of Windows 10 to their friends and family. Representatives of the company believe that this indicator also increases, and the spring version of Windows 10 got the best estimate of all time. However, this indicator can also not show the serious problems encountered by a small number of users.

The user base of Windows is large and complex – 700 million. consumers, 35 million. gadgets 175 million. different versions, 16 million unique driver and hardware combinations – so the probability of a specific problem specific to a specific configuration that appears to one another or another is huge. Data loss was associated with only one of the following configurations: this did not affect Windows users who used the default configuration, but damaged those who chose certain atypical settings.
