The arrest of Lladala is legitimate: Lorenzana

MANILA – Defense Minister Delfin Lorenzana said on Wednesday that the arrest of the Communist Party of Philippines (CPP) leader Visente Lallad last week was a legitimate law enforcement operation that is contrary to the claims of some groups.

"The arrest of Mr. Vicente Ladlad was legitimate law enforcement carried out by the appropriate authorities who found firearms and explosives with high pressure in his possession. To be precise, Ms. Fides Lim Ladlad now claims to have been planted to discredit the Philippine nationality of the Police and to release her husband, "he said in a statement to the press.

Lorenzana also dismissed Ladladin's wife's claims that her husband's arrest had been done to avoid the peace process.

"It's not right. How can the peace process be stopped when the president suspended him in June? When peace negotiations were concluded, Mr. Ladlad should be converted into his provisional freedom to be part of the NDF (the National Democratic Front) negotiating panel as the negotiator is also expired, "the head of the DND added.

Lorenzana also said that ongoing local peace efforts have achieved much more success in less than a year since numerous official foreign negotiations since the 1980s.

"The Extended Integrated Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the Working Group Balik Loob continues to positively transform the lives of former members of the CPP-NPA (New People's Army) and militants of Baian insurgents who have returned to the laws of the law in order to rejoin their communities and live normal life, "he stressed.

Ladlad is known for his involvement in the cleansing of members of the Communist who marked the CPP leadership as alleged government spies in the organization.

At least 67 bodies were discovered in September 2006 in what is now called the Innopacan Massacre, Lejt, which includes the South Front Front of the New People's Army.

Ladlad was among prominent names in the CPP accused of multiple murders due to the Inopacan massacre.

He was also charged with Adelberto Silva, who was arrested last month in Laguna, head of the Department of National Organization and Secretary General of the CPP.

"As for the arrest of Mr. Ladlad, anyone who has encountered a violation of the Philippine law will be considered accordingly. It is now best left to the courts. Mrs. Ladlad needs to believe in the justice of our justice system," the DND chief stressed. (PNA)
