Lisbon hosts a gala premiere to present the Michelin edition of Spain and Portugal in 2019, after previous ceremonies were always held in Spain.
The fact that this year, when celebrating the 10th gala, Michelin chose Portugal, Secretary of State for Tourism, Ana Mendes Godinho, "a turning point that shows the growing importance of Portuguese gastronomy in terms of international significance".
The governor recalled that two years ago Portugal had 17 stars in the Iberian Guide, and in the current issue there are 28 (five restaurants with two stars and 18 with one), which represents "a huge jump in terms of qualification and recognition from our "chefs"he said, pointing out the choice of Jose Avillez ("Belcanto", two stars) as the best in the world, according to the International Academy of Gastronomy, as "an important step in the internationalization of the Portuguese gastronomic brand".
Portuguese gastronomy and wine are gaining more and more international space and are also an opportunity to "show the territory and open the map of Portugal"the minister said in an interview with Ljuz.
"This offer is distributed across the country and is an increasingly important way to discover people in Portugal, which is much related to our local products, agricultural, wine, and experience of discovering the territory"he said.
As an example, Ana Mendes Godinho recalled that in October Portugal visited directly in Top 4 as the best destination of gastronomy and wine in the North American market, according to the words "one of the largest American luxury operators, Virtuoso".
In addition, he said, in 2016, Portuguese gastronomy and wine were about 960 news items in the international press, and this year the government estimates that this number is doubling.

The organization of the event result is "public-private partnership", which was attended by Turismo de Portugal, the Lisbon Chamber and the Association for Tourism in Lisbon, which includes companies from the region.
