On November 11, the City of Quarteira received a "Walk for Diabetes", an initiative promoted by the Lions Club Vilamoura, with the support of the Loule Municipality and the City Council of Quartier.
The race starts at 9:30, in front of the city center of Quarteira, followed by two routes: 5km and 8km.
According to a press release from the municipality of Loule, in the morning, from 10:00 to 12:00, also in the area outside the Autocar Center, there will be a free check for diabetes for the general public.
Then, at 1:00 pm, the lunch of Solidarity of Sv. Martina, in the restaurant Vild Chicken, worth 25 €.
In the afternoon, two conferences will be held which will have two doctors as speakers: at 13:00, the theme presented by Mara Markues will be diabetes, and at 2:00 PM, Maria Jose Pires will talk about the work of the Oncology Association of Algarve.
We remind that on November 14, World Diabetes Day was marked with the aim of raising awareness and raising the attention of citizens and governments on the problem of diabetes.
Currently, diabetes is the most common non-communicable disease with high prevalence and increasing incidence. It has already reached some 415 million people around the world. Portugal among the European countries is one of the highest rates – 13.3% of the Portuguese population aged between 20 and 79, which corresponds to more than one million individuals, according to the latest data from the National Diabetes Observatory.
