The net profit for the Digi Communications NV group was 18.9 million euros in the first nine months of this year, 2.3 times lower than in the period January-September 2017, when it amounted to 44.2 million euros.
According to financial data provided to the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), the group also recorded an increase in revenues of 9.9% in the first nine months of this year, from EUR 684.1 million to EUR 752 million.
Romania remains the main group market, which produces 65% of revenues, followed by Hungary (20%), Spain (12%) and Italy (2%).
In Romania, the group reported an increase in the segment of cable and Internet fixed telephony services, with 8.7% of subscription to cable television services (3.2 million RGUs on 30 September 2018 compared to 3 million RGUs, on September 30, 2017), and 10.5% for fixed internet subscriptions (2.5 million RGUs on 30 September 2018 compared to 2.2 million RGU for the same period of the previous year). As for mobile telephony services, Digi is the portability leader with around 31% of the total market, representing nearly 185,000 numbers transferred to the Digi Mobil network in the first nine months of this year.
In Hungary, the revenue of the Digi Hungari branch (including Invitel) rose to 54.6 million euros, and Digi strengthened its leading position in the cable television market. In the fixed-line segment, Digi is the second operator (with a market share of over 25%), while in the segment of fixed telephony market share is around 23%. The strong positions in this market are prerequisites for the launch of mobile telephony services.
Spain and Italy recorded a significant increase in the number of subscribers by 46% from 971,000 RGUs on 30 September 2017 to 1.4 million RGUs on September 30, 2018. Digi Spain positioned itself as the market leader MVNO (Virtual Mobile Operator) and fifth mobile operator in the Iberian market, with a growing field presence through 3,000 outlets.
In the first three quarters of the year, some 142,000 mobile numbers were transferred to the Digi Spain network. Last month of the third quarter also marked the launch of fixed services in the Spanish market. In two mature European markets, Digi Communications addresses both Romanian diaspora and local customers.
"We managed to reach EBITDA of 237 million euros at the group level, which is 10.6% compared to the first nine months of last year, by 81.7 million euros in the third quarter of this year. By maintaining a stable and high investment rate, we succeeded we have recorded a free cash flow (FCF) of around 35 million euros, which is accumulating for nine months. The growing revenues in all markets support the evolution of the overall RGU by 12.2% and we are approaching the threshold of 15 million units for generating revenues. Communication is important for the evolution of society whole and, in line with this goal, we will continue to invest in fiber optic networks both in Romania and in Hungary where we passed (over) more than 7 million homes passed, "said Sergei Bulgac, CEO of Digi Communications Group.
