Opponents’ protests over restrictive measures taken by the government to limit the spread of covida-19 ended in Ljubljana without major riots. Police listed several people and arrested some of them. Although the water cannon was also present during most of the protests, this time it was not used.

Protesters expressed their dissatisfaction mainly with the restriction of access to services with PCT status (sick, vaccinated, tested). At the same time, they also sang against coercion, repression, and freedom.

From the partially closed Republic Square, where they met, they headed towards Prešeren Square. In a circle, they tried to reach Gosposvetska on Dalmatinova Street and grab the entrance, but the police stopped them. Thus, the crowd headed for the center of Ljubljana, but then turned slightly towards Bleiweisova and Celovška.

The crowd then occupied the crossroads between Klagenfurt and Bleiweis. After more than an hour, police pushed protesters to the intersection, which blocked the intersection between Bleiweisova, Aškerčeva and Tržaška streets. Police rushed them back to the city center and back to Republic Square, where the rally ended shortly after. Traffic in the capital is no longer obstructed.

The Ljubljana Police Administration announced that around three in the afternoon about 2,000 people had gathered in the Republic Square in an unregistered rally. They wrote that some people were arrested, mainly for violating public order and peace. Details of the rally and of the detainees will be announced on Thursday.

According to POP TV, police arrested several protesters, some granite dice were found. It was also reported that the police finally managed to dissolve the rally by listing everyone present in and around the square.

This police action was announced in part by the Home Minister at a meeting of the Home Affairs, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Committee. Aleš Hojs. He described the actions of the protesters as “a flagrant breach of public order”, that the police will be there when needed “deleted one by one” of public areas.

Resni.ca party chairman was also seen among the protesters Zoran Stevanovic, who actively called for past protests, which later ended in riots.
