A new high school film joins the already full-bodied range. It’s the movie “Moxie” that is based on Jennifer Mathieu’s acclaimed youth book. So: can you need one more? Great spoiler warning!
What would a high school movie be without the riot? Whether on the dance floor or on the football field or against the adult world, it’s hard to do that if you don’t include REVENGE in capital letters. And here’s the girls ’revenge.
When the girls are hung up at school, without adult intervention, with an epithet like “the most fucking”, the main character gets tired of Vivian and secretly releases the fanzine “Moxie” which then inspires a movement. And yes, you can find out the rest. Comedian and actress Amy Poehler directs, and while I wish for a little more humor on her part, this one deserves its place for its everyday charm and its riot-friendly friendship and soundtrack.
It seems that all generations need their high school movie, here in Sweden we can still settle for “Fucking Åmål”, but it is possible that the American repertoire needs “Moxie”.
