Brazil's inflation in October 2018 was 0.45%


The National Consumer Price Index – IPCA for October presented a variation of 0.45%, leaving 0.03 percentage points below the rate recorded in September, 0.48%. This score is highest for October of 2015, when the HICP registered 0.82%. Accumulated in the year amounted to 3.81%, above 2.21% recorded in the same period last year. In the prospect of the last twelve months, the index was 4.56%, slightly above 4.53% from the previous 12 months. In October 2017, the rate reached 0.42%.

For the calculation of the index of the month, the prices collected from 28 September to 26 October 2018 (reference) were compared with the prices that were in the period from August 30 to September 27, 2018 (basis).

In the following table, the group of food and beverages showed an acceleration in price levels (from 0.10% in September to 0.59% in October), while Transport Group slowed down from 1.69% in September to 0.92% in October . Together, these two groups account for 43% of family costs and contribute about 70% of the monthly rate. The remaining groups were between 0.02% of the Communication and 0.76% of the members of the dwelling

For the second consecutive month, fuels were the peak of the group with 2.44% variation and 0.14 p.p. impact on the HICP, which represents about 1/3 of the index. All articles show deceleration from September to October: ethanol (from 5.42% to 4.07%), diesel (from 6.91% to 2.45%), petrol (from 3.94% to 2%). , 18 %%) and automotive gas (from 0.85% to 0.06%). In traffic, airline elements also slowed down with an increase of 7.49%, compared with 16.81% in September.

A group of food and beverages presented a strong acceleration in September's price level (0.10%) for October (0.59%), which is responsible for the second largest share in IPCA (0.15 pp). This high level affected mainly the grouping of food at home (from 0.00% in September to 0.91% in October), highlighting tomatoes (51.27%), English potatoes (13.67). )%), whole chicken (1.95%) and meat (0.57%). On the side of the parachute there were: cassava flour (-4,69%), long-term milk (-2,60%), eggs (-1,12%) and ground coffee (-0,94%).

The feeding group varied 0.02%, with a focus on snack (-0.25%).

In the item Electricity (0.12%), from the residential group (0.14%), the rates were adjusted in the following areas: 15.23% in one of the concessionaires in Sao Paolo (0.25%) of 23. October; 6.18% in Brazil (0.35%) and 15.56% in Goiania (1.06%), both effective from October 22. Other researched regions range from -2.39% in the metropolitan region of Recife and 6.56% in the Fortaleza region, due to an increase or decrease in the PIS / COFINS rate.
