The president of ZAPU, doctor Dumiso Dabengwa, is ill and is in South Africa, where he receives specialized treatment, his party has revealed. In an interview, Zapu's secretary general, Dr. Strike Mkandla, said Dr Dabengwa traveled to South Africa in December.

He said that Dr. Dabengwa was not hospitalized, but lived with relatives while doing routine checkups.
"There were things to do, but it's fine, we talked yesterday (Tuesday). I was expecting it to return shortly after Christmas and it was noted that I had to go check-up on day 4

"It was observed then that it would be a money expense to come from this side and come back. He decided to stay with his relatives during Christmas Parties. We hope it will be next week," he said.
Dr. Mkandla did not reveal the illness of Dr. Dabengwa.

However, he said that there is nothing that the public is worried about their health.
"It's really a routine check. Perhaps the things that were supported, I did not know about them. It seems that new things were identified during the routine examinations that they felt had to be taken care of.

"It has not yet been operated. Some of these things can be complicated or, alternatively, some of these things may not be serious, they only need regular check-ins," he said.
