In an interview with Sundai Mail, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said the national budget for 2019 would be a balanced budget.

Ncube will present its foreign exchange budget on Thursday this week. He said the budget would convey a message of discipline. Said Ncube:

It will be a balanced budget with enough carrots and a decent stick; but we hope that more carrots will be made of rods, because we want to restore this ambience of confidence, to build confidence. We want to make sure that there is enough stimulation for the industry and that there is the creation of new jobs. We want to regulate certain behaviors. We hope that the Budget will communicate a message of discipline. The idea is to attract the economy as we move to the next level, because we continue with the mantra that we are open to work. We want to move the economy to a higher level of middle income, so the budget will be an instrument for adoption in terms of achieving that vision and will continue next year and will continue to build the road. The idea is to balance the incentives to market discipline, this will happen in order to ensure sufficient incentives and regulatory enough to remain in a right and narrow position.
